ABOUT US

Manor Park Construction Management provides a full development management service, from planning feasibility advice and the instruction of architects to the costing and construction of your project, specialising in self build, house re-modelling, extensions and renovations.

The company was founded by Nick Tappin & Peter Tappin who between them have over 30 years experience in the development & construction industry. Peter has previously owned his own residential development company building over 15 houses and delivering numerous building contracts in the Chilterns & South Bucks area, while Nick started his career as a land buyer at Michael Shanly Homes before moving to London to become a development manager for a mixed use development company, with emphasis on financial development appraisals.

The concept behind the company was born from the lack of choice in building services currently available in the market. Many homeowners lack the time and construction knowledge to carry out their desired development on time and on budget. The need to properly plan and manage a building project is often overlooked, finding the correct architect or structural engineer to most importantly instructing the correct construction team for the job is crucial to stay on time and on budget. We provide a service that cuts out the risk and often high expense of a main contractor while providing a higher quality of work than a general builder, allowing flexibility to use specialist tradesman specific to the requirements of the project.

With their joint experience Nick felt he could bring the management skills of larger development projects to a smaller scale, with Peter taking control of the technical build and site management part of the business to provide a full service from planning to completion.

MPCM pride themselves on providing a professional service at all stages of the project, and aim to provide complete transparency on budgets and programmes which has been an issue with the building trade in the past.

The Team

Nick Tappin – BSc(Hons) Real Estate Management – From being around his fathers construction sites as a youngster Nick always had an interest in property especially residential house building. After leaving school with A levels in Geography, Biology and Economics he was accepted into Oxford Brookes University to study surveying where he received a 2:1 with honours in Real Estate Management.

Shortly after leaving University, he was offered the position of Land Buyer at Michael Shanly Homes in Beaconsfield, where he worked directly with the Thames Valley Land Director in purchasing land for high quality housing schemes.

After 2 years with MSH and gaining consent for a number of housing schemes in the Home Counties he was offered a more senior role at Carrington Homes, a smaller housing developer based in Penn (Bucks). He was responsible for all areas of the development process and gained substantial experience in construction budgets, architectural & planning management and development law.

After 2 years with Carrington Homes Nick successfully applied for the role of development manager at St James’s Investments, a mixed use development consultancy based in New Bond Street, London who worked closely with Tesco Stores property development team. At St James’s he was trained in complex development appraisals and budget management, soon becoming the manger of development teams for town centre regeneration schemes in Bexleyheath, Dartford and Sittingbourne containing Tesco Extra stores, multiple housing units and High Street retailers.

Tesco decided to close their development arm due to the housing market collapse and while the last 2 years at St James’s had been his most challenging and rewarding  Nick wanted to fulfil his ambition to work for himself and set up Manor Park Construction Management with his father.

Peter Tappin - Peter attended RGS High Wycombe and started his career as a financial accountant at a London based firm of Chartered Accountants.  He then worked for a firm of commercial meat suppliers for 5 years as financial controller before becoming self employed. After working freelance for Mercedes Benz and Sony Music for 2 years, during this contract accountancy work Peter renovated two houses and decided this was the direction he wanted to take.

Shortly after completing the contract work he decided to leave accountancy and teamed up with a builder in the early 1980’s as a land buyer and contracts manager, he did this for 3 years before starting his own contracting and development company.

He ran this very successfully for 8 years, initially securing a number of large construction contracts for extension, conversion and refurbishment before building over 15 homes in the Chilterns  area until 1991, when he decided to close the business and take a more risk adverse career choice into development & contract consultancy.

He worked in the property contracting industry for 7 years until he decided to start his own general building company which he has been running for the last 10 years. This experience has given him a real advantage in setting up MPCM with an extensive number of quality tradesman contacts and material supplier contacts.
